Labradorite, the stone of “Magic and Protection,” will protect one’s energetic field during the process of divination. It is an ally for those who desire inter-dimensional travel and self discovery. Labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar, has a hardness of 6.0 - 6.5. It is a sodium calcium aluminum silicate with a triclinic crystal structure, found mainly in complex aggregates. Throughout its existance, Labradorite, has been known for its remarkable labradoressence appearance, which exhibits vivid and unique splashes of colors, ranging from greens, blues, golds, oranges, reds, violets, to the entire color spectrum. It inherited its name from the peninsula, Labrador, in Canada where it was originally found in the 1770’s, by Moravian missionaries. Then discovered in the 1940’s in Finland, where they named it,Spectrolite, for its fullest spectrum exposure and in Scandinavia for its silvery gray appearance, naming it, “Larkivite.” The earliest discoveries in the United States, by The Red Paint people of Maine, dates back over thousands years ago and became popular in Europe after its discoveries by Russia and Norway in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries. Today, deposits of Labradorite is found in Canada, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia and the United States.
